Managing trading accounts

Open AccountAccount management (Account management). Trading accounts let you separate brokers, live vs paper, or different capital pools. Every import, sync, and manual trade is tied to an account.

  • A list of your trading accounts (name, profit type, balance)
  • Actions to add, edit, or remove accounts
  1. Open Account management.
  2. Create a new account.
  3. Enter:
    • Name — e.g. “Alpaca live” or “Prop challenge”
    • Profit type — how TradeReview matches fills when calculating P&L (see below)
    • Starting balance — opening equity for P&L context
  4. Save, then use that account when you connect a broker, import CSV, or enter trades manually.

Profit type controls how open lots are matched when a position is closed in partials or with multiple entries. It is set per trading account and appears in the account list as the type column.

OptionHow matching works
FIFO (First In, First Out)Oldest open fills are closed first. Default for new accounts and the most common broker-style method.
LIFO (Last In, First Out)Newest open fills are closed first. Useful if you scale in and prefer recent lots to exit first.
Weighted AverageOpen lots are combined into an average cost basis; exits use that average instead of picking a specific lot.
  • Prefer FIFO unless your broker or tax method requires something else — it matches how most platforms report trades.
  • Use LIFO when you intentionally want the last adds closed first (for example, short-term overlays on a longer core position).
  • Use Weighted Average when you think in terms of average entry price across the whole position rather than individual lots.

You can change profit type later by editing the account. Name accounts by broker or strategy; use profit type for P&L matching, not for labeling live vs paper.

  • One brokerage connection or CSV source per trading account when possible
  • Name accounts clearly so filters on Dashboard, Trades, and Reports stay readable
  • Record deposits and withdrawals with cash transactions so balances stay accurate
